News & Updates

Welcome to our new Friends of Hamlin Beach State Park website!

The Friends Group is a nonprofit, tax exempt organization dedicated to protecting and promoting Hamlin Beach State Park.  In addition to improving the park, we are engaged in a long term project of restoring the former CCC/POW Camp at the park for educational purposes for the benefit of the public.  Our mission is to support the Park and the CCC Camp for all our visitors to enjoy today, and for posterity.

Hamlin CCC/POW History Trail Update (2012)
by Ed Evans

Volunteers from Hamlin and the surrounding area have been working since June 2008 to clear the “jungle-like growth” from the old Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Camp on Moscow Road.  The campsite is on property that is part of Hamlin Beach State Park and is located just east of the southern entrance to the park adjacent to 968 Moscow Rd.  By August of 2012, over 5000 people hours of volunteer work had been put in with hand tools cutting and hauling away the dense brush that had taken over the area.  Today the eight acre site looks very much like a park and the work continues.

Projects & Accomplishments

The Friends of Hamlin Beach have been instrumental in the clean-up, conservation, and improvement of the park, CCC/POW camp site, and surrounding area. We support the park at various park events including Free Fishing Day, Bike Safety Day. and Fall Festival.

We provide visibility at various local events such as the Hamlin Wheelfest and Hilton Applefest,

Our premier event is the I Love My Park Day and we have ongoing work to create a museum at the former CCC/POW camp site on Moscow Road near the park entrance.

Our next upcoming event that we support is the Free Fishing Day on June 27th, 2015
