ILMPD 2015 volunteers 800 pixels

Every year the Friends of Hamlin Beach State Park (FOHBSP) hosts volunteers as part of more than 95 cleanup, improvement, and beautification events happening statewide in May. I Love My Park Day is an exciting statewide event to improve and enhance New York’s state parks and historic sites and bring visibility to the entire state park system and its needs.

The FOHBSP organized several projects this year for I Love My Park Day. These  included painting the walls of the Camp Store, clearing weeds from the camp basketball court,  weeding the flowerbeds and vegetable garden at the CCC/POW camp, site cleanup at the CCC/POW camp, planting over 350 seedlings in the nursery, beach cleanup, and sprucing up the gardens and horseshoe pits in Area 3.

The group of over 70 volunteers worked hard and left knowing their efforts made a difference to all our park visitors.  Our thanks to our many sponsors including Sherwin Williams, Tops, The Lions Club, Home Depot, Mark’s Pizzeria, Hamlin Pizza Shack, and Lowe’s.

Participants come together to celebrate, improve and enhance state parks and historic sites; boost volunteerism; and raise the visibility of the entire state parks system and its needs.

I Love My Park Day is coordinated at the statewide level by Parks & Trails New York (PTNY) in partnership with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP).
